February An array of European radio telescopes has found numerous black holes in the Hubble Deep Field. A pair of astronomers has uncovered two examples of a kind of star that had been imagined, but never found. A team of physicists has found that the speed of light may not be so constant. Two teams have used the remodeled Multiple Mirror Telescope to observe the first known black hole in our galaxy's halo.

Astronomers have found surprising chemical anomalies among the dwarf stars of a globular cluster. Astronomers have found a supermassive black hole in a nearby galaxy. Astronomers from Johns Hopkins University find a new breed of quasar.
