Research Interests
In a general framework, I am working on the Spatiotemporal Evolution of
Complex Active Regions in the Sun - Mechanisms of Energy Release .
The subject deals with applications of Self-Organised Criticality in the
solar corona, and specifically with the impact of Self-Organization on
flaring activity and energetic phenomena.
I am mainly working with 3D numerical simulations of the solar corona.
These simulations attempt to describe the corona as an inherently complex
nonlinear dynamical system, rather than a Magnetohydrodynamic
astrophysical system. The goal is to enhance the essential features of
active regions' evolution and the characteristics of flaring activity by
studying the generic complexity of the system, using only very basic
concepts of Magnetohydrodynamics.
In general, my research interests are focused on applications of
Self-Organized Criticality on various, mainly Astrophysical, systems, as
well as on energetic phenomena like flaring activity on accretion disks,
on Sun-like (typical Main-Sequence) stars, etc.
